Health Professional Regulatory Body Guidelines, Standards, and Disciplinary Decisions

Health Canada convened an Expert MAID Practice Standards Task Group to “create resources that could be used by regulators to operationalize the [federal Expert Panel on MAID and Mental Illness] guidance with respect to MAiD for mental disorders. The Task Group produced a Model Practice Standard for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) and Advice to the Profession: Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID).

Health professional regulatory bodies in most provinces and territories have created guidelines and/or standards on how the professionals they regulate must act in relation to medical assistance in dying. One College (British Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons) has released some disciplinary decisions in response to complaints made or questions raised re: specific cases.
